The Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) is a market-based solution for promoting quality j ournalism and turning its practice into a real competitive advantage. It is a tool for newsrooms, provided that they have journalistic methods, an ethical framework and rules of independence.
The other approaches on the market for cleaning up our information space are many and varied. They focus largely on identifying and demoting illegal or harmful content, as with fact-checking. Still others focus on sources in an institutional and systemic way, but above all on the basis of external research and evaluation and the resulting classifications.
JTI is currently the only tried-and-tested instrument that
In its unique form as an official ISO-type standard, JTI offers the option of certification by means of an external audit,
and is fully readable by the machines that feed algorithmic referencing and recommendation systems
(social network news feeds, search rankings, programmatic advertising)
to support the visibility and, ultimately, the sustainability of reliable sources of information.
The 18 clauses of the standard focus on the institutional level and the processes of journalistic production,
with specifications relating to transparency and the editorial charter,
including, for example, the policy on independence, accuracy and correctness.
